Cuisine
The New Year begins with a Nevisian feast fit for royalty, featuring spiny lobster plucked fresh from the Caribbean and pillowy coconut dumplings that melt on the tongue. The Bahamas toast to fresh beginnings with zesty conch salad and sky juice, a deceptively potent local elixir that packs a tropical punch. Nevis's famous hot pepper sauce, made from locally grown Scotch Bonnet peppers, and The Bahamas' rock lobster, often grilled to perfection with a garlic butter sauce, add spice to the culinary journey.
Historical References
The echoes of history resound at Hamilton House in Nevis, birthplace of American Founding Father Alexander Hamilton. Falmouth, Antigua, showcases meticulously restored 18th-century naval facilities at Nelson's Dockyard, a living museum of British maritime might. The Hermitage Plantation on Nevis, home to the oldest wooden house in the Caribbean, and the ruins of Buena Vista on Exuma, a cotton plantation, offer insights into the islands' complex colonial histories.
Things to Do
The New Year tees off at the Four Seasons' golf course in Nevis, where each hole offers a postcard-worthy vista of neighbouring St Kitts. A champagne cruise through the Exuma Sound ushers in the dawn of a new chapter, where the water shimmers an otherworldly blue that defies description. For a unique New Year's experience, the Junkanoo parade in The Bahamas offers a riot of colour, music, and dance that carries on into the early hours of the morning.
Packing Guide
Prep for tee time in Charlestown with Gucci golf skirts for her and Peter Millar for him. For days taking in the Dutch architecture and art galleries in Sint Maarten, bring along an oversized Sensi Studio tote, capri pants from Coperni, and Rhode tops for her, and Alex Mill shirts and shorts for him. Lean into the unmitigated beauty of the beaches in Antigua and Barbuda in classic, minimal Eres bikinis and Tom Ford swim.
